Dear fellow journey-women
On 18th March we closed up Studio 8 just as the stay-at-home regulations were coming into effect. It’s been a challenging few months trying to pay salaries and rents etc BUT my pleasure to keep in touch with all of you by email and WhatsApp. The prospect of losing Studio 8 felt very real – I wasn’t really afraid of catching the virus but rather of having to close up permanently. On 9th of May I had my 72nd birthday 🍰 in lockdown – and despite that sounding like the most unbelievable number to me I’ve never had any intention of retiring!
Recently when some of the restrictions were lifted we started practising a soft reopening –
10am – 2.30 pm Monday to Friday and by appointment only.
Only one salesperson and one customer at a time with enough time left between clients to sanitize the store and of course masks needing to be worn. The drop at home service twice weekly is chugging away nicely and slowly but surely our customers are returning to the store. We have resumed our service to Johannesburg too.
I feel incredibly grateful to all of you for sticking by us all these years as Studio 8 is my passion and my joy.
We are anxiously awaiting our cashmere which you are all asking for. Because of flights grounded and borders locked down we won’t in all likelihood get delivery this month. Hopefully in June when the cold weather starts in earnest… And my pea brain is working overtime while I try to work out ways of turning us all on to excellent homegrown apparel. Maybe it’s time for us to stop looking north for all things desirable – there are many many fabulously creative artists right here on our beautiful sunny shores!
Love
Marcelle
