I recently made a leap of faith and went back to one of my very first fashion loves – Comme des Garçons. I know the label is not everyone’s cuppa and is so very specific but I just could not resist and bought the Autumn/Winter 2015 collection. We have recently taken delivery and its as gorgeous, as covetable, as avantgarde as ever. And impossible for anyone to copy or replicate. I’m happy to report that Studio 8 still attracts the Comme wearer and, despite the disgusting weak rand, it is selling nicely.
Founded in 1969 by Rei Kawakubo in Tokyo, Japan, the label means “like the boys” in French. In 1981, Comme des Garçons debuted at Paris Fashion Week with a predominantly black palette, and a distressed style which contradicted the popular trends of the period. With their asymmetrical deconstructed tailoring, they go against the grain while playing with different expressions of body shape.
Out with the old…
I’ve just been having an adventure of another stripe ….my lovely Victorian house in Claremont was bought by a developer and is being demolished and replaced by yet another block of flats in the area. I have bought something else nearby but have removed all the features I loved in the old house (Oregon floors, fireplaces, etc) and with the help of my lovely builder Grant van Heerden (0732201915), generously recommended to me by interior designer Ronnie Wilkens, installing them in the new. I feel like a snail moving with my shell on my back….but it’s been a ride so far!!

I’m listening to Hello – Adele’s new single and watching the 2nd Series of The Affair.
Five star read I spent a few hours in Exclusive Books this weekend – suddenly yearned for a “real” book again – you know the kind with paper pages? I’m reading such an incredible story – Glowfly Dance by Jade Gibson. Loving it and give it 5 stars !
